Which city has the best-dressed women?
I love the eclectic style you find on the streets of London, where fashion has always been experimental. It doesn’t always work, but it certainly makes a statement and is enjoyed, and I think that is the most important thing.
Please describe your style in three words.
Individual, modern, eclectic.
What is the biggest mistake one can make when getting dressed?
Being too slavish to trends.
Do you believe in role models?
Yes, I think that role models, especially for the younger generation, are very important. We are surrounded by visual images in the modern world, and good role models can help to develop one’s style and feeling of identity.
What are your favourite fabrics?
I have always adored the inherent beauty of silk; it just feels so incredible against bare skin.
Are there any style combinations that you object to?
Personally I prefer a more individual approach rather than following the latest 'look'.
Would you say that you are conservative or bold?
More bold than conservative.
What are the rules, if any, in the way you dress?
I am not a believer of rules, but I would say that dressing oneself is all about how you feel. If you feel great, then wear it with confidence.
Celebrities and style...
Do not always go hand-in-hand.
One garment/accessory that you can never have enough of?
Prada shoes.
A woman should always look like...
She is confident in what she is wearing.
Who taught you what you know about style?
Coco Chanel, Schiaparelli, and my mother.
How do you select your clothing every morning?
It depends on how I feel and what I am doing. Our fabric collections feature a lot of colour, and as a result, I tend to wear a lot of black and white, which works so well against pattern and colour.
Your biggest regret is...
I prefer to live without regrets.
The three essential things a woman should know about style are...
Shape, colour, and texture — all three of these things can dramatically change the overall result, and all need to be considered.
Do you have any shopping rituals?
Yes, there are certain shops that I always visit on my travels — Dosa in New York, Caravane in Paris, and Prada in Milan.
We will never see you wearing...
Beige.
Which new designers do you follow and why?
Erdem, who I love for the use of print, and Giles Deacon.
What is the first thing you notice on a woman?
Her smile.
Which fashion house never fails to impress you?
Prada, effortlessly ahead of trends, always.
One article of clothing that a woman needs to pay close attention to is...
More importantly, I would say it is key to make sure that everything fits properly; it not only looks better, but it also makes one feel more confident.
Is comfort an enemy of style?
No, not necessarily. I think that style should be comfortable.
The best word of advice you have ever heard?
Believe in yourself, have confidence and passion. This above all else is what drives me forward.
