The most stylish person you have ever seen…

Paul Smith at his boutique in Paris; he gave us a personal tour of the store and invited us to the press party for fashion week. A true gentleman and a very nice guy. He embodies true style, the kind that comes from great character.

Please describe your style in three words.

Classically irreverent tailoring.

What is the biggest mistake one can make when getting dressed?

Being underdressed.

Do you believe in role models?

No.

What are your favourite fabrics?

Tweed, linen, denim and velvet.

Are there any style combinations that you object to?

Rules, there are none.

Which city has the best-dressed men?

London.

Would you say that you are conservative or bold?

Boldly conservative.

What are the rules in the way you dress?

Feel good in whatever it is you are wearing.

Celebrities and style...

Are annoying.

Name one garment/accessory that you can never have enough of?

Tie pins.

A man should always look like...

He knows what he is doing.

Who taught you what you know about style?

The street and watching people on it.

How do you select your clothing every morning?

By occasion.

What is your biggest regret?

I try and live life without any.

The three essential things a man should know about style are...

Buy what you like. Wear what you love. Be comfortable in it.

Do you have any shopping rituals?

Set a budget. (At least try!)

We will never see you wearing...

Nothing.

What is the first thing you notice on a man?

Their intelligence and character.

The one image that defined your approach to style...

None.

Which new designers do you follow and why?

Young Meagher and the Militant Guild of Rural Tailors.

The only article of clothing that a man needs to pay close attention to is...

His blazer.

What are the most treasured items in your wardrobe?

Hand made tie pins made by my partner.

Is comfort an enemy of style?

Style is comfort.

Which designer never fails to impress you?

Paul Smith; he doesn’t take fashion or himself too seriously, yet he is a style icon.

Who would you like to recommend for My Style?

Devon Burt, Creative Director at Nike.

The best words of advice you have ever heard?

Never have regrets.
