It's better to look like yourself than somebody else. It's possible to be cute and comfy at at the same time. Don't overthink it.
Please describe your style in three words.
Individual, inspired, irreverent.
What is the biggest mistake one can make when getting dressed?
Forgetting to put on deodorant, all is lost.
Do you believe in role models?
To an extent. I prefer to use people I know as a behavioural inspiration, rather than celebrities. With that being said, I do like to look to certain celebrities for style cues.
What are your favourite fabrics?
Denim and leather.
Are there any style combinations that you object to?
I object to an excessive use of trends.
Which city has the best-dressed women?
The borough of Brooklyn, but I’m biased!
Would you say that you are conservative or bold?
Erring on the side of bold.
What are the rules in the way you dress?
No rules apply here.
Celebrities and style...
Are not mutually exclusive.
Name one garment/accessory that you can never have enough of?
Sweaters. Especially now.
A woman should always look like…
Herself.
Who taught you what you know about style?
I think it's something I picked up on my own, just by growing up. Going to an art school and moving to New York certainly had an influence on me as well.
How do you select your clothing every morning?
Based on how I'm feeling, but more often than not, by how much time I have.
What is your biggest regret?
Concerning myself too much with fitting in when I was younger.
Do you have any shopping rituals?
I try everything on first. I also shop at a lot of thrift stores.
We will never see you wearing…
Heels, casually. I can't take myself seriously in them. Work and special occasions only.
Which new designers do you follow and why?
I learn the most about specific designers through my job as a model, so the ones that stick with me are the ones whom I've worked with!
Who is the most stylish person you have ever seen?
Julian Casablancas. He's my hero.
What is the first thing you notice on a woman?
Her openness and authenticity.
What are the most treasured items in your wardrobe?
My most treasured items are clothing and jewellery that I’ve inherited through the women in my family.
Which fashion house never fails to impress you?
Prada. It generally comes together really well over there.
Is comfort an enemy of style?
Not at all.
The best words of advice you have ever heard?
Life’s too short; live without regret. Or something like that.
