What is the biggest mistake one can make when getting dressed?
Wearing something that's going to annoy you all day or night. Tight bras, ill-fitted or impossible shoes, itchy stuff…
Please describe your style in three words.
Formfitting, textured, playful.
Do you believe in role models?
Yes, but for different reasons. From fashion inspiration to people with beautiful hearts or with innovative thinking.
What are your favourite fabrics?
Cotton, yummy wool, and cashmere.
Are there any style combinations that you object to?
I think a bare midriff is a little hard to manage for a long day… Also, wearing a turtleneck and carrying a backpack, I believe there's a joke I heard about it somewhere.
Which city has the best-dressed women?
Women walking around Soho in New York are usually really creative and fashionably put together. In London, the girls in the street are very creative with surprising colour combinations and layering, but are more “high-street” overall. When an Italian woman is really well dressed, it’s hard to beat the expensive severity of their fashion, it almost makes me feel intimidated — and I love it.
Would you say that you are conservative or bold?
Somewhere in between. I have total ease and pleasure dressing in costumes because then I don't care what I wear. I feel sometimes I’m worried what fashionistas in my business think, and I edit somewhere between total comfort and costume.
What are the rules in the way you dress?
I usually like to show my waistline with a good cut dress or cinch with a belt. I enjoy showing skin (I grew up in the tropics AND I'm half Italian) so I like to show my décolletage or wear a miniskirt to show my legs. I’ve been told that showing both at the same time is a faux pas, but it depends on how it’s done! ;)

Name one garment/accessory that you can never have enough of?
A good dress.
A woman should always look like...
She is happy and fresh.
Who taught you what you know about style?
Mainly stylists I have worked with, some it-girls, and fashion magazines.
How do you select your clothing every morning?
I check the weather. Then I ask myself where I am going, who I am meeting, and then what’s my mood.
What is your biggest regret?
Not treating myself better when I first started modelling. My family was very cautious with money and I never knew whether modelling would work out, so I just saved and saved. Maybe I should have invested in clothes and taxis to make my life easier earlier on.

Know when you feel beautiful; what factors such as emotions, clothes, hair and makeup, energy state make that happen for you, and try to live there.
Do you have any shopping rituals?
I usually shop in one big day and make a list of all the things I need. I am pretty systematic, so I manage to find them and also add a few extra things. This happens maybe three or four times a year.

Who is the most stylish person you have ever seen?
An older Italian woman, in her sixties, who was at a dinner table next to us at an enchanting restaurant on a trip to Marrakesh. She looked like Diane von Furstenberg, dressed immaculately, had huge gem earrings and was so confident and glamorous. She was surrounded by her friends, laughing and I was inspired by how much she loved her life.
What is the first thing you notice on a woman?
Her energy and face.
What are the most treasured items in your wardrobe?
A brown belt I got at a thrift store, a bunch of cozy sweaters from Sandro, a few dresses that make me feel great, and my tall black boots that are always easy to wear and look good with everything.
Which fashion house never fails to impress you?
Balmain. Always so cool!
One article of clothing that a woman needs to pay close attention to is...
Her jeans and bras. They can really do favours — or not.
Is comfort an enemy of style?
Not always, you just need to know how to choose the right pieces that work. There are a lot of really uncomfortable fashion items — you can try wearing them for a few hours for fun or to test them. Maybe your sliding scale of “comfort” will change… or maybe you will decide it's not worth it?

My friend and interior designer Liubasha Rose. She uses her Ukrainian history and architectural talent to be pretty awesomely fashionable.
