Are there any style combinations that you object to?
I am not really a fan of total looks and addictions to a specific style. In general, I don’t like it when the brands you are wearing become a priority of your style instead of your personality.
Please describe your style in three words.
Classic with a twist.
What is the biggest mistake one can make when getting dressed?
Not being aware of your own body type and the right proportions. For example, when you wear high heels that are too high for you, or ballerina shoes that are too flat. I would also like to point out that while jeans may be popular, they are not really democratic. If you don’t have a good body, it’s best that you avoid them. With that being said though, having the right attitude (such as when you feel cool, easy, and relaxed with what you are wearing) can ‘save’ you from almost all types of mistakes.
What are your favourite fabrics?
I like fresh, crispy cottons for summer and beautiful masculine wools for winter: in Italian we call them “grisaglie maschili” and tweed is included in them.
The three essential things a woman should know about style are…
Don’t go out in the evening without makeup! Maintaining a natural look during the day is really beautiful, but it’s always better to put something on your eyes or lips at night. High heels are a priority for the evening and your nights out. And I’m talking specifically about rather short people like me, as wearing high heels always helps to form a good shape. Last but not least, try to understand what you really like, and don’t be influenced by the... influencers! If you have doubts, go for less instead of more, and pay close attention to the details of your outfit: a small beautiful bag can make all the difference.
Which new designers do you follow and why?
I am totally in love with Marco De Vincenzo, Simone Rocha and Molly Goddard. I’m also really attracted by this new Italian designer called Lucio Vanotti. And I love what Julien Dossena is doing for Paco Rabanne.
What are the most treasured items in your wardrobe?
For me, jackets are very important, because they always give shape to a body. I have a lot of them in my wardrobe, in all cuts and lengths imaginable, from long to super shorts. My favourite ones are a smoking jacket by Prada, a velvet double breast by Acne, and a blue short jacket by Comme des Garçons that I found in a vintage market. I’ve had it with me since forever and I’m still in love with it. Oh, and I’m passionate about the silk “carré”, but not just the ones produced by Hermès. :)
Which city has the best-dressed women?
Unfortunately, it is not Milan. I would say Paris for its elegance. And in London you can always see attractive, eccentric looks for women that are really unique.
Which fashion house never fails to impress you?
Throughout the years, it’s definitely Prada. Also, what Alessandro Michele is doing for Gucci during the last seasons is very impressive: he is a breath of fresh air in the fashion world. He has created a new sense of desire for clothes and accessories, and we will see more of that in the future."
Is comfort an enemy of style?
The most important element in a person’s style must be the sense of comfort. If she is not comfortable, she does not have style.Who would you like to recommend for My Style?
Accessories designer Paula Cademartori and Klara Bredlow, PR director at the Karla Otto head offices in Milan.
